Dr. Mark Melson


Dr. Mark Melson is the Medical Director and Founder of Tennessee Oculoplastic Consultants. He is a Board-certified Ophthalmologist and Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology who specializes in the diagnosis and management of eyelid, tear duct, and orbital diseases. His goal is to provide quality, compassionate, and comprehensive medical care, as well as to offer safe and effective surgical treatment, including cosmetic eyelid surgery. Dr. Melson is a native Virginian and attended the University of Virginia where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce with a concentration in Accounting. Following college, Dr. Melson briefly worked at a leading public accounting firm prior to starting his own small-business consulting firm in Washington, D.C. While in Washington, he completed the Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Program at Georgetown University. Dr. Melson graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine then completed his Ophthalmology residency at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. After his general ophthalmology training, Dr. Melson completed two years of subspecialty fellowship training in oculoplastic, orbital, and cosmetic surgery as well as neuro-ophthalmology at the Emory Eye Center in Atlanta. He then moved to Nashville to join the faculty at Vanderbilt University where he held dual appointments as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology as well as an Assistant Professor of Medicine (Dermatology). He was also an attending ophthalmologist at the Nashville Veteran Affairs Medical Center. While at Vanderbilt, he served as the Director of Medical Student Education for the Department of Ophthalmology and was actively involved in resident education. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and lectured locally, nationally, and internationally. For the past five years, he served as the Assistant Team Ophthalmologist for the Nashville Predators NHL Hockey franchise. Dr. Melson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. He is actively involved in local, state, and national medical societies and holds positions on several society boards. Dr. Melson and his wife, Martha, live in Nashville with their two children. He enjoys fishing, golf, snow skiing, and Predators hockey.
